Suso has been given an ultimatum by AC Milan: he must improve his performances if he is to get a contract extension, as reported by Calciomercato.
Having left the club underwhelmed by his performances under Marco Giampaolo, he will now need to adapt to Stefano Pioli’s game if he is to get the renewal.
There are positive signs within this though, as the new boss was singing Suso’s praises before even taking a training session, referring to his ‘indisputable quality’.
Suso has started 7 Serie A matches so far this season, managing just 1 assist so far, with that making the difference in a 1-0 victory over Brescia, as per WhoScored.
With six of those appearances coming from the central attacking midfield area, rather than his favoured position on the right-wing, the Spaniard has struggled to have his usual impact on the game – it says a lot that his assist came from a cross from out wide.
He has still been getting on the ball though, averaging 2.3 key passes, 1.7 dribbles and 1 cross per game, while maintaining a pass success rate of 84.6%.
Milan are right to demand more end product from Suso, though this shouldn’t be of too much concern for the Spaniard, as the signs are already there that he has been close to producing that this campaign.
With the potential of going back on the right-wing, there is certainly a chance that he will be able to come up with more goal contributions, in turn earning himself a new contract.
