Lucas Paqueta has struggled since making his move to AC Milan, as was distinguished in our Flashback article on Kaka.
The suggestion has even been made that the Brazilian could be sold as part of an exodus at the club, despite only having signed from Flamengo in January 2019.
However, he managed to put his struggles to the side and help his team to a 1-0 win against SPAL, playing an integral part in most of Milan’s most threatening moves.
The 22-year-old completed five dribbles throughout the game’s duration, which was the joint-highest of anyone on the pitch, alongside Ismael Bennacer, as per WhoScored.
He was often looking up and aiming to start progressive moves for his team, as can be seen at various points in the highlights video on the Serie A YouTube channel, even if that only translated to one key pass.
Will AC Milan be able to keep Gianluigi Donnarumma?
Perhaps surprisingly, despite his slight 180cm frame, Paqueta managed to win four of his five aerial duels throughout the game – he also managed to make his defensive contribution, successfully completing one tackle and two clearances.
Many at Milan will have expected the win to be far more resounding than it was, but there are certainly positives to take from the game, with the three points being the obvious one.
Paqueta’s performance is another, with the hope now being that he can kick on from this and consistently show the quality that led to Milan signing him in the first place.
