French newspaper L’Equipe are reporting that Ligue 1 champions Girondins Bordeaux are on the verge of losing key midfielder Fernando to the lure of Serie A. 28 year old Fernando has been at the club for four and a half years and has remained a regular throughout his time at the club, making 120 appearances and scoring 15 goals for them.
But now Fernando is being targeted by Serie A European hopefuls Genoa who think the Brazilian anchorman would make a great signing in their push for a place in next season’s European competition. Genoa president Enrico Preziosi is quoted as saying about Fernando that
“We are in negotiations. I’m sure that the player wants to come to our home which pleases me.”
Fernando is no stranger to Serie A having played for A.C. Siena prior to his move to France. Whilst at Siena he also was sent on loan to fellow Italian side Catania so he would be familiar with the way football is played in the Italian top flight.
A transfer fee is yet to be agreed but Bordeaux consider the player an important member of their first team and will be asking for a price to reflect that if Fernando’s heart is as set on returning to Italy as Preziosi has indicated.
