Romelu Lukaku is unavailable for Internazionale’s Champions League clash with Barcelona, due to a thigh injury, as reported by The Mirror.
He is said to have had the issue for 10 days, with it currently remaining uncertain whether it will keep the Belgium international out of Inter’s top of the table match against Juventus on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele have both been included in Ernesto Valverde’s matchday squad.
Inter may have made a perfect start to their Serie A campaign, but they will likely be feeling the need to get a result here, having drawn against Slavia Prague in their competition opener.
Lukaku has made a good start to life in Serie A, having scored three goals in five starts and one substitute appearance, as per WhoScored, while he has also averaged 1.3 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in Inter’s league campaign to this point.
However, like many of his teammates, the 26-year-old will likely want to redeem himself in the Champions League – having failed to score against Slavia Prague, he also managed only one key pass, no dribbles and a pass success rate of 47.1%, which is especially poor compared to his Serie A number of 67.7%.
This will be a big blow for both Inter and Lukaku; the club could have used the Belgian, especially considering how prolific he has been in the league, while the player will likely have been thankful for the chance to put things right in Europe’s biggest competition.
However, Antonio Conte should still be able to harness the confidence from Inter’s league form to ensure they give Barca a good game.
