Internazionale may have eventually lost 2-1 against Barcelona due to two Luis Suarez goals, but they definitely put up a fight.
It was only in the 84th minute that Barca went into the lead, despite having held 65.5% of the game’s possession, as per WhoScored.
One of the men who was an integral part of Inter’s game plan defensively was the holding midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
First of all, the Croatia international made more tackles than anyone else on the pitch with four, while he was also level with Stefan de Vrij and Milan Skriniar for clearances, having made three each.
The 26-year-old also made two interceptions, a number which was only exceeded by Diego Godin and Skriniar, with another indication that he would stop Barca’s play in any way being that he committed four fouls, a number that was only equalled by Sergi Roberto and Clement Lenglet.
Brozovic did a lot to win the ball back, but he was also efficient in ensuring Inter were able to keep hold of it as he completed 91% of all the passes he attempted throughout the game, while he was only intercepted once.
What also gives another insight into how important he was to Inter’s play on the ball, is that he had 4.8% of the game’s overall possession, more than any of his teammates.
