In this instalment of our TT Roundup, Football Transfer Tavern have gathered three of the biggest stories to have involved Juventus recently and have provided our thoughts on the reports published.
CITY DENIED BENTANCUR
According to reports from Corriere dello Sport (via Calciomercato), Juventus snubbed a big offer from Manchester City for Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.
The Juve man allegedly caught the eye of many big sides in the summer – including Barcelona – however, the Old Lady managed to hang onto their man.
The ‘big offer’ suggested by Corriere dello Sport has no specific figure, but considering that he has only two starts in the league this year, it would not be farfetched to see either City or Barca registering their interest again.
With Juve having a big list of central midfield players, it’s a bit surprising they haven’t considered an offer for him – especially if it was of big value.
Miralem Pjanic, Blaise Matuidi, Sami Khedira, Adrien Rabiot have all had more minutes than the Uruguayan so far, and they also have the options of Aaron Ramsey and Emre Can.
There are no questions that the midfield needs to be streamlined with that many quality options, and if they are getting a big offer for Bentancur – who isn’t really considered one of the better ones, as you can tell by his lack of minutes – then they should perhaps think about making the most amount of money possible.
RAMSEY OUT, EMRE CAN IN?
Reports in the Daily Mail this week have suggested that Aaron Ramsey could be axed from their Champions League squad in February due to concerns over injuries.
When the opportunity arises for Juventus – providing they go through the group – to tweak their Champions League squad for the knockout stages, they might go for Emre Can due to his versatility and lack of injuries.
Even though Ramsey has not picked up a proper injury, the tension in his muscles means that he has to continue being rested, claims the Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri.
He said (via Daily Mail): “Ramsey has muscle tension and even if he is not injured he needs rest.”
Transfermarkt claim that Ramsey currently has ‘adductor issues’, and it has kept him out for four games and counting.
Given that the Welshman has only started three games since joining the club, it’s perhaps not a huge surprise to see these suggestions, as there’s no point having him in the squad if he’s not up for playing.
Juventus have central midfield players in abundance, and the German can play in both defence and midfield, so if Sarri can predict these injuries ongoing, it might be the right call to bring the ex-Liverpool ace back into the European fold.
ANOTHER TWIST FOR MANDZUKIC
Another week, another suggestion that Mario Mandzukic’s future has changed again.
Last week’s round-up suggested that Mandzukic was ready to snub playing football in Qatar to join Manchester United, after halving his wage demands.
However, reports from the Daily Record now suggest that he could snub United to move to Qatari leaders Al Duhail SC.
The report states that Duhail could offer Mandzukic a hefty £6.47m salary after-tax to come to the Middle East.
It’s really hard to predict which way this will go without understanding the psyche of Mandzukic.
It appears to be a straight-up battle of playing football at a higher level or playing football somewhere else for much more money. And, unless you know Mandzukic personally, it’s quite hard to tell which one he’d rather do.
One thing’s for sure, he has the capabilities to add something to Manchester United, especially considering their current attacking options of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood – all young and fairly inexperienced, and much different players to the Croatian, who has proved his quality in Turin, as well as Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.
