# Sheffield United: Blades linked with goalkeeper Wes Foderingham

**Sheffield United will be looking to strengthen their squad for next season as they are all but certain to be staying in the Premier League, and this has seen them linked to goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.**

According to [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/) (29 June, page 61), via [HITC](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2020/06/29/report-sheffield-united-want-29-year-old-free-agent-wilder-sees-him-as-useful-squad-member/), the ex-Rangers goalkeeper is now a free agent after five years at Ibrox, and wants to play for a club where he will feature much more in the starting eleven than he has recently in Steven Gerrard’s side.

Blades manager Chris Wilder will likely want some more depth in that position next season, with Simon Moore unproven at Premier League level and loanee Dean Henderson potentially leaving after this season to return to Manchester United.

Foderingham has only [been a back up](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wes-foderingham/profil/spieler/61697) at Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, which arguably is a lower standard than the Premier League. Therefore he surely wouldn’t be good enough to replace Henderson, who has eleven clean sheets in the [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/clean_sheet) this season (joint-third best), but he could be an ideal replacement for Moore.

Moore has been linked with a move away from Bramall Lane in the recent past, with West Bromwich Albion [interested](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/07/25/report-west-brom-hoping-to-complete-the-signing-of-sheffield-uni/) in him. The fact that he has only played twice for the Blades this season in England’s top flight and [conceded](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/simon-moore/leistungsdaten/spieler/123536) six goals highlights that perhaps this division is to high a level for him. With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2021, Wilder may look to cash in rather than lose him for nothing.

Therefore it could be a good move for the club if they were to sell Moore and pick up Foderingham on a free as their cover option. However he should definitely not be seen as a replacement to Henderson, they will need a better player to replace the young Englishman.
