# Sheffield United: Fans react as Jack Rodwell set to sign for the club

**Sheffield United are set to offer free agent Jack Rodwell a contract with the club (via [@SheffieldUnited](https://twitter.com/SheffieldUnited/status/1213047200034574336)).**

Manager Chris Wilder confirmed the news in his press conference ahead of their FA Cup third round tie against AFC Fylde on Sunday.

The ex-Manchester City man will be offered a short-term deal with the Blades until the end of the current season, but there will be an option of extending it.

He has been looking for a club since leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of the 2018/19 campaign and was previously linked with a move to Roma, but ultimately he failed to convince the Italian outfit to offer him a deal ([Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7623751/Roma-decide-against-signing-Jack-Rodwell-following-trial-Gianluca-Mancini-impresses.html)).

It would certainly be an interesting signing, but Wilder has insisted that after talking to Rodwell about his future his ambitions align with the club’s ([@SheffieldUnited](https://twitter.com/SheffieldUnited/status/1213049556272844802)).

Plenty of Sheffield United fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter, with most seemingly happy to trust Wilder on this one despite the 28-year-old having played no football so far this term.

Here is what some had to say…

> Classic Wilder signing. He’ll come good. GLTTL

> Rodwell has a lot to prove. Let’s hope he has more of an impact than Ravel Morrison.

> Rodwell looks a total Wilder signing. Obviously talented, low risk, versatile but for various reasons, off the beaten path. And as ever, if good enough for Chris, he’ll do for me. [#twitterblades](https://twitter.com/hashtag/twitterblades?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
