# Sheffield United: Fans react to Barry Bannan’s Blades admission

**Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has admitted that he hopes Sheffield United are relegated from the Premier League (via [Sheffield Star](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/latest-owls-news/sheffield-wednesday-star-barry-bannan-reveals-why-he-hopes-sheffield-united-are-relegated-premier-league-season-after-admitting-he-envious-blades-1187909?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter)).**

The Scottish international has been at Hillsborough since the 2015/16 season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/barry-bannan/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/61561)) and has therefore seen the Blades come up from League One and then leapfrog the Owls up into the Premier League.

Chris Wilder’s side have made a superb start to life in the top flight, sitting in fifth place after 12 games with 17 points ([BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table)).

And Bannan has admitted that it is hurting him to see Wednesday’s fierce rivals exceeding expectations in the Premier League.

“It’s not nice seeing them doing well, but you’ve got to give them credit where credit’s due. Hopefully this time next year we’re the ones up there and they’re back down here,” the Scotsman said (via [Sheffield Star](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/latest-owls-news/sheffield-wednesday-star-barry-bannan-reveals-why-he-hopes-sheffield-united-are-relegated-premier-league-season-after-admitting-he-envious-blades-1187909?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter)).

His comments shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given the intensity of the rivalry in the Steel City.

Plenty of Sheffield United fans have been reacting to what Bannan has had to say, with most taking a dig back at the midfielder. Here is what some had to say…

> You’d expect him to say he’d want to join the Blades there by getting promoted. Seems a defeatist attitude.

> I hate Barry bannan with a passion, just something about him, even his stupid penguin hair. But fair play to him for hating us.
