# Sheffield United: Forest targeting Kieron Freeman could help Blades pursue Matty Cash

**It was reported recently that Sheffield United had a [bid](https://www.sheffieldunited.news/news/sheffield-united-should-include-reported-nottingham-forest-target-in-matty-cash-deal/) of around £10 million rejected from Nottingham Forest for Matty Cash, however the latest news could suggest that Forest are expecting the player to leave in this transfer window.**

According to[The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8591539/Nottingham-Forest-want-sign-free-agent-Kieron-Freeman.html), the Championship side are keen to sign defender Kieron Freeman but face competition from Championship rivals Swansea and Huddersfield.

Freeman was at Sheffield United [this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kieron-freeman/profil/spieler/158703) until his contract expired and the Blades decided not to offer him a new deal.

The former Blade plays in the same [position](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kieron-freeman/profil/spieler/158703) as [Cash](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matty-cash/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/425334/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB2&pos=&trainer_id=) (right-back), and the fact that Nottingham Forest are looking to acquire Freeman could be a sign that they are willing to let Cash depart in the summer. If they manage to land Welshman, then it may have a knock on effect which allows Chris Wilder to take his target to Bramall Lane.

The [22 year-old](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matty-cash/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/425334/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB2&pos=&trainer_id=) shone for Forest at both ends of the pitch last season as he has [made](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison) 42 appearances in the Championship and scored [three](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison) goals whilst picking up [five](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison) assists. He has also made 1.1 key passes a game, via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison). Meanwhile defensively, he averaged 2.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and three clearances per game.

This would be a great addition for Wilder to add to his squad, as quality in depth is crucial if they want to perform as well as they did this season as they [finished](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) in the top half of the Premier League. The Blades were somewhat of a surprise package as many [tipped](https://talksport.com/football/578741/adrian-durham-sheffield-united-relegated-premier-league-captain-billy-sharp/) them to get relegated, but they will definitely not be taken for granted next season and Wilder will have to strengthen his squad to adapt to the new challenge.
