Sheffield United: Chris Wilder reveals extent of Lys Mousset’s toe ligament injury - Sheffield United News

Sheffield United forward Lys Mousset was not in the squad for the Blades’ first fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season against Wolves.

Chris Wilder did not get the performance he would have wanted as his team were 2-0 down in the first six minutes and Wolves kept that lead until the final whistle. Mousset might have been helpful in the match had he been able to play and Wilder has provided an update on why the Frenchman was not available for selection.

BBC Sheffield sports editor Andy Giddings tweeted that, after the game, the Blades manager revealed that Mousset has undergone an operation on a toe ligament injury and that he is unsure as to the duration of that problem.

Some of the performances that the Frenchman put in last season were a big factor as to why the Blades achieved a top-half finish as he has scored six goals and supplied four assists in the Premier League, per WhoScored.

He scored the joint-highest number of league goals for Sheffield United in 2019/20 and he also had the joint-most assists (per WhoScored), so he has certainly been a potent attacking threat for the club since signing from Bournemouth last summer.

Mousset also boasts an enviable record which sees him rank first when it comes to goals scored as a substitute in the Premier League last season.

This all highlights that he will be a big loss for the squad and Wilder will be hoping that he recovers soon, although Oli McBurnie also managed six goals last season and he will need to step up so that the Blades can brush off that first defeat of the season from Monday.
