Sheffield United have been dealt a blow before the season starts as one of their key players has picked up an injury, which could prompt Chris Wilder to seek a replacement in the transfer window.

According to Yorkshire Live, Oliver McBurnie has withdrawn from the Scotland squad after he incurred an injury.

The extent of the injury remains unknown and Blades fans will have to wait and see what Wilder says about it whenever he next speaks to the media.

The Yorkshire Post reported that an extra option at centre-forward could be particularly welcome in the short term following the setback to McBurnie just days before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League.

Everyone associated with Sheffield United will be hoping that the injury is not too serious as McBurnie was their joint-top scorer last season alongside Lys Mousset, and also averaged 1.2 shots per game, via WhoScored. He is the third most expensive signing in the Blades' history after his arrival from Swansea City last summer for £17.19m, per Transfermarkt.

Thhat the 23 year-old is being selected for Scotland highlights that his performances under Wilder have not gone unnoticed, although the Blades definitely don't need to think about finding a replacement in the transfer window, but rather someone who can cover temporarily. It is worth wondering whether someone currently in the squad can come in to replace him and it would most likely be super-sub Mousset, who scored the most goals as a substitute in the Premier League last season.

He should therefore be the ideal replacement to cover for the injured McBurnie, and so Wilder should not feel like he has to rush into signing a new striker to compensate for the Scot's injury.
