After weeks of speculation surrounding the future of AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, it has finally been announced that he has signed for Sheffield United.
The Blades needed to sort out who would be their goalkeeper as Dean Henderson returned to Manchester United, and picking up Ramsdale definitely stops the rumours that Henderson could return.
It was his debut campaign in England’s top flight last season, and even though he couldn’t keep the Cherries up he definitely was one of few who shone for the side as he kept five clean sheets and made 129 saves, which was the third-highest in the Premier League.
His former manager Eddie Howe was full of praise for the goalkeeper as he spoke to talkSPORT, saying: “Aaron has probably been the big surprise, although I don’t want to say surprise because I really think he’s an exceptional goalkeeper but to everyone else he’s been a surprise.
“He’s accepted the challenge brilliantly for a young goalkeeper which is probably the hardest position to blood young players in. He’s taken that responsibility and never looked back so to this point he’s been magnificent for us.”
This is high praise and taking into account these comments, his age, his stats for last season and the fact that he is clearly on England’s radar as he featured for the U21’s in the past emphasises that the Blades have made a very shrewd signing and hopefully have now got a goalkeeper who will be their number one for many seasons.
