Sheffield United have shared a photo of the Blades celebrating John Fleck’s goal against Arsenal as the Premier League restart approaches.
The club’s official account tweeted an image of Mo Besic, Oli McBurnie, Enda Stevens and Fleck after he scored at the Emirates Stadium earlier this year. United referenced the fact that football is set to return on June 17 with the simple caption “not long now…”
Fleck cancelled out a strike from Gabriel Martinelli when he hit a deflected shot into the top corner, earning Chris Wilder’s men a well-deserved 1-1 draw with the Gunners in the process (BBC).
Despite the fact they were only promoted last year, Wilder’s side have charged to the upper reaches of the Premier League table, tied with sixth-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers on 43 points, and are firmly in contention for European football next season. Indeed, they are only two points behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United.
The Blades finally returned to Shirecliffe in May and teams are now allowed to take in close-contact training, as the English top flight has initiated the second phase of Project Restart. The South Yorkshire outfit have a crucial game in hand over Wolves and they are set to face their closest rivals when the season reconvenes later this month.
Unsurprisingly, loads of United fans gushed over the club’s update on social media, with one supporter eagerly tweeting “Europe here we come” and another saying that it doesn’t matter where the Blades finish as it will have been an “unbelievable season” regardless.
