Sheffield United have shared a photo of Chris Wilder taking charge of first team training at Shirecliffe on social media.
The club’s official account posted an image of the head coach barking orders during a training session this week with the simple caption “gaffer.”
Wilder received plenty of high praise from former Brighton and Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton last month, who told Yahoo Sports that “Sheffield United have given themselves a really good opportunity” (via the Examiner).
It is fair to say the Blades have taken the Premier League by storm, as Wilder’s men have surged to the top end of the table, tied with Wolverhampton Wanderers on 43 points, and only two points behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United.
First team stars, including the likes of club captain Billy Sharp and Chris Basham returned to United’s training ground in May, and the English top flight has given the go-ahead for clubs to start the next phase of ‘Project Restart.’
Players are now allowed to take part in close-contract training with their teammates, although social distancing rules still apply.
Wilder’s Blades are set to rival Nuno Espirito Santo’s team when football resumes later this month, and the South Yorkshire outfit crucially have a game in hand over their West Midlands counterparts.
The two sides clashed earlier this season in an eventful 1-1 draw, with Lys Mousset opening the scoring at the Molineux Stadium (BBC).
Unsurprisingly, loads of SUFC fans gushed over the club’s update on Twitter, with one fan tweeting “watch out Wolves,” and another dubbing the former player a “messiah.”
