Sheffield United: Predicted XI against Manchester United - Sheffield United News

Sheffield United’s Premier League return has not gone as well as many Blades would have wanted as in the first week they only managed to get one point from an available six.

Their first game was a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa, and the second was a 3-0 loss to Newcastle United, a game which was tied at 0-0 until John Egan got a red card.

However the results across the division over last week meant that with only eight games left, the Blades currently sit 7th and only two points from Manchester United in fifth, via BBC Sport.

This makes the Blades’ upcoming fixture today crucial as they face Ole Gunnar Solskj√¶r’s side at Old Trafford.

Here is the Transfer Tavern’s predicted Sheffield United starting XI, which sees Chris Wilder make four changes for the fixture.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who has the joint most clean sheets in the division this season (11) will be unavailable for this fixture as Manchester United are his parent club so he cannot play against them. This means Simon Moore will come in for his second appearance of the season.

Due to Egan’s red card, he is now suspended for this one and with manager Wilder still monitoring the extent of Jack O’Connell’s injury, the back five will see Phil Jagielka come in for Egan, and Jack Robinson retain his place in the starting eleven.

Against Newcastle on Sunday, Sander Berge was subbed off for John Lundstram in the 66th minute, per SofaScore. At this time the Blades were down 1-0 and Wilder clearly fancied the team to possibly get back into the game with Lundstram on the pitch instead of Berge. The manager might look to start Lundstram against United and go back to his old midfield that got Sheffield United so high up the league in the first place.

Meanwhile David McGoldrick was not in the squad to face Newcastle due to a slight injury, so he will likely not start against the Red Devils.

Billy Sharp received only a 6.2 rating compared to Oliver McBurnie’s 7, via SofaScore, in their last fixture and with Man United’s defence clearly lacking pace, which was highlighted by Tottenham’s goal against them last week, Wilder might look for more speed in attack.

This could see Sharp be dropped for Lys Mousset, who produced a Man of the Match performance in the reverse fixture between the sides at Bramall Lane. He caused havoc for the defence and also managed to pick up a goal in the game which ended 3-3.
