Sheffield United: Predicted XI to play Newcastle United

Sheffield United: Predicted XI to play Newcastle United - Sheffield United News

Sheffield United’s first fixture of the Premier League return made it feel like football had never been gone as it was full of controversy.

The Blades thought they took the lead against Aston Villa, but the goal-line technology suffered a fault and the deserved goal was not given. In the end, the game ended 0-0 and there were many positives to take from the performance.

The point moved them one place higher in the division, they moved up to a European qualification spot (sixth) ahead of the weekend and they will look to cement their position when they travel to Newcastle where they will hope to pick up three points.

Here is the Transfer Tavern predicted Sheffield United starting XI, which sees Chris Wilder make two changes for the fixture.

The back five should be the same as the one that played Villa, as Wilder is still assessing the injury which caused Jack O’Connell to miss the fixture. This should not worry supporters of the club as the defence put in a solid performance, especially Jack Robinson, who made his first appearance for the side in the Premier League, and he should be full of confidence for the Newcastle fixture.

John Fleck was not in the squad on Wednesday due to injury, but the Blades manager has confirmed that he is back in contention for Sunday, so this should see him come straight back into the side, most likely as a replacement for Sander Berge. Fleck has the joint most goals in the squad and his attacking side of the game will be needed against a resilient Newcastle side who will sit back.

Meanwhile up front the Blades looked to lack an attacking threat at Villa Park, and Billy Sharp only picked up a WhoScored rating of 6.43. This highlights that he struggled to make an impact and given his age, Wilder may look to freshen the forward line up with the two games just days apart. David McGoldrick came on and looked good, so it would be no surprise to see him start at St. James’ Park.

Blades fans, is this a good starting XI? Comment below!
