# Sheffield United: Blades interested in Djed Spence

**Sheffield United have a big transfer window ahead of them as they look to build a squad that can continue to battle in the[top half](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) of the Premier League, with fresh rumours linking them to Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence.**

According to [ESPN,](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4137018/tottenham-boss-mourinho-keen-on-middlesbroughs-ged-spence-sources) the Blades are keeping tabs on the 19-year-old and his situation at the Championship club, although they face plenty of competition as fellow Premier League sides Tottenham, Southampton and Burnley are also keen on the right-back.

Middlesbrough have reportedly set a £10m price tag on Spence, with manager Neil Warnock comparing him to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as he [said](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4137018/tottenham-boss-mourinho-keen-on-middlesbroughs-ged-spence-sources): “If you look at one or two of the full-backs that are around now — the lad at Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the lad at Manchester United from Palace \[Aaron Wan-Bissaka\] — they are all the same type as Djed.”

The right-back is only a teenager but has made 20 appearances this season, winning 1.2 tackles a game, via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/362219/Show/Djed-Spence). He has also kept seven clean sheets this season, per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/djed-spence/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/483348/plus/0?saison=2019&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB2&pos=&trainer_id=), and these statistics bode well for the youngster and highlight that he has considerable potential.

The Blades currently have the reliable George Baldock in the right-back position and he has had a great season, managing to keep [13 clean sheets](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/clean_sheet) in the division whilst also picking up two goals and three assists, via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/PlayerComparison). He has [played all 35 Premier League games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/george-baldock/leistungsdaten/spieler/146690) this season for the club and is still reasonably young at the age of 27.

Even though they have a good player in Baldock at right-back already, it will be good for Sheffield United to sign a precocious young player like Spence who can provide a capable alternative and possibly even become the 27-year-old’s long-term successor at Bramall Lane.

With other Premier League sides interested in the teenager, it highlights the scale of his potential and, for a fee of only £10m, the Blades could find themselves a real bargain if htey.
