# Sheffield United: Blades interested in defender Abdul Mumin on possible free transfer

**Sheffield United seem to be interested in acquiring some players for cut-price fees so that they can have a stronger squad for next season, and this has seen them linked with Abdul Mumin.**

According to the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8484603/Sheffield-United-considering-signing-Nordsjaelland-centre-Abdul-Mumin-free-transfer.html), the Blades are interested in signing [22-year-old](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/abdul-mumin/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/451801) centre-back Mumin, who played at FC Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga.

It seems like Mumin has not agreed a new deal with the club as he did not want to stay and consequently he is set to be available on a free transfer in the upcoming summer window.

Sheffield United have had to [utilise](https://m.football-lineups.com/match/314428/) their squad depth quite a bit in defence since the return of football, with [Jack Robinson](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-robinson/profil/spieler/128909) getting his first taste of Premier League action for the Blades and veteran defender [Phil Jagielka](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/phil-jagielka/profil/spieler/13520) also coming into the side due to [injuries](https://www.sheffieldunited.news/news/oconnell-injury-caused-by-teammate-and-update-on-if-hell-play-again-this-season/) and [suspensions.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/john-egan/ausfaelle/spieler/121324)

This has probably highlighted to Chris Wilder that he needs more depth in the centre of defence and looking towards the signing of a free transfer in this department seems a good idea at first glance,

However, Mumin has only played his football in Denmark, with  70 appearances in the top two tiers in that country, per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/abdul-mumin/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/451801), so the Premier League could be a huge step up for him, as illustrated by the respective leagues’ [UEFA association club coefficient](https://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings/country/season=2020/index.html).

Therefore, even on a free, this possible signing does not seem like one which would greatly strengthen Sheffield United’s ranks, and Wilder should be looking elsewhere to get better quality in his squad.
