It seems that Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is keen to sign some more players following Aaron Ramsdale’s signing from Bournemouth, and recent reports suggest that they are keen on Clarke Oduor from Barnsley.
According to Football Insider, a source from Sheffield United has said that the Blades have identified the defender as a player that they would like to sign in the transfer window.
The 21-year-old Kenyan is one of the backup options that the Blades had on their wish list in case a prospective deal for Antonee Robinson did not go through, and with Fulham hijacking that deal at the 11th hour, it seems that Wilder will now look to the Barnsley player instead.
Oduor made 18 appearances for the Tykes last season, helping to keep three clean sheets and scoring one goal. That was probably the most important one of the campaign for Barnsley as it was a 91st-minute winner on the last day of the season against Brentford which meant that his side avoided relegation from the Championship.
Oduor managed on average 1.3 tackles, 1.9 clearances and 1.3 successful dribbles per game in 2019/20, via WhoScored, which make for impressive reading for a player in his first full season in the Championship and he could be a more than decent alternative to Robinson.
He is valued at just £608,000 on Transfermarkt and, with the Blades currently having Enda Stevens in their squad, the 21-year-old could be a good backup for the Irishman and hopefully could challenge the ex-Portsmouth man for his place further down the line if this transfer comes off.
