Callum Gribbin – his career so far
Callum Gribbin is still very much a fresh signing over at Sheffield United as the now 21-year-old talent joined the club in the summer of 2019, having previously been released by none other than Manchester United. But despite the fact the Red Devils decided to cut their ties with the young gem, he is still highly rated and could make it on the biggest stages.
And unsurprisingly, Gribbin was one of Man United’s biggest hopes for a number of years during his climb through their academy and he was impressing on a weekly basis. For a long time, his promotion into the first team at Old Trafford was a given but the last two seasons of his career with the Reds was sadly sidetracked by injuries and a slow but steady loss of form.
Still, his climb was impressive, to say the least. Gribbin ended up tallying a total of just seven games for Man United’s U18 squad, scoring six goals and recording one assist on the side as well, before moving up and joining the U23s.
He would also compete in UEFA Youth Cup with the U19 team, scoring once across six games played in the competition. Still, he found the most success with the U23s, playing 21 games for the squad and registering three goals and two assists along the way as well.
Sadly, as we’ve already mentioned earlier, injuries and loss of form meant that Man United would release him from the club in the summer of 2019 and this is exactly where Sheffield United come in.
The 21-year-old is now registered with the Blades’ U23 squad and is a regular presence at his new club. Now, just like before, there are high hopes he can make it and progress into the senior team sooner rather than later.
Even though he never got to play for the seniors at Man United, he was still invited to train with them both under Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal. The talent is certainly there and it will be up to the Blades to rekindle the flame and make the most out of it.
Seeing how the youngster was signed only last summer, it’s pretty safe to say that he will be staying at Sheffield United for the foreseeable future at least. At the moment, no transfer rumours or transfer news are suggesting otherwise and the 21-year-old gem is adjusting well to his new surroundings.
But in some other interesting Sheffield United news, he was reportedly wanted by some other clubs that were not named, following his release from Manchester United. It does seem that the youngster is still a very well-known name out there and the Blades should be happy they were the ones to scoop him up.
It was certainly tough to be released by the club of his youth but Gribbin can still make it as one of the Blades.
Even though he is yet to make it in a senior squad, Gribbin is very much a very well developed player at this stage of his young career. The 21-year-old midfielder is a highly creative and technical force on the pitch that can influence his team’s attack in the final third the most.
He is excellent on the ball and has great dribbling abilities to boast with as well. With brilliant vision and incredible flair, Gribbin usually glides past his opponents and then proceeds to set up his teammates with pinpoint passing and exceptional balls.
It should also be noted that he is something of a free-kick expert and can be a real threat from long range and set-pieces. As a whole, he has the arsenal to be a deadly no.10 and connect the middle and the final thirds with great effect.
