Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is set to sign for Arsenal, in a deal that could net the Blades £30 million after add-ons [The Guardian].

The Lowdown: Sheffield United start Sky Bet Championship campaign in poor fashion

Starting 2021/22 in poor fashion with no Sky Bet Championship wins in three, newly appointed manager Slavisa Jokanovic will be hoping that an upturn in form is just around the corner for his freshly inherited side.

In spite of this, the 53-year-old faced further difficulty within the early phase of his tenure at Sheffield United, having to omit the 6 foot 2 stopper from their 4-0 defeat away to West Bromwich Albion [Sky Sports].

Now, the reason for his absence has become apparent.

The Latest: Arsenal set to sign Ramsdale; fee could reach £30 million after add-ons

Ramsdale looks to be on his way to the Gunners after the two clubs agreed a fee of around £24 million up-front, with another £6 million in add-ons contingent on whether he can secure himself the number one jersey at the Emirates Stadium [The Guardian].

Bournemouth are entitled to a 15% sell-on clause for the 23-year-old ace, diluting the sum that the Blades will receive [Sky Sports].

The Verdict: Sheffield United must re-invest

Unlikely to stay at the club following Premier League relegation last term, receiving £30million for Ramsdale seems about as good as it gets for the Blades here.

In 2020/21, the England international recorded six clean sheets in 42 appearances encompassing all competitions [Transfermarkt].

However, his impact on the Blades side is more accurately reflected within his save percentage rate, managing to save 70.7% of efforts thrust upon his goal [FB Ref].

Once labelled as ‘incredible’ by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp  [Yorkshire Live], there is no doubt the shot-stopper will be missed, but there won't be many second tier sides receiving upwards of £20m for players, money which should go straight back into the team.
