Sheffield United have been heavily linked to Matty Cash during the transfer window, but the latest update will not be one that supporters are wanting to hear.
According to Football Insider, fellow Premier League side Aston Villa are looking to beat the Blades to the possible signing of Cash.
Championship side Nottingham Forest are holding out for a £15 million bid, and the right-back has made it clear that he wants to leave the club in the transfer window.
The 22-year-old performed very well for Forest in both attack and defence as he made 42 appearances in the league last term and scored three goals whilst supplying five assists. He also made 1.1 key passes per match and averaged 2.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and three clearances per game, via WhoScored.
Aston Villa have already tried to hijack a deal that the Blades made this transfer window as they also wanted Aaron Ramsdale. Sheffield United came out on top in that transfer as he signed for them last week, and there is no need for them to worry about losing out on Cash either.
The Blades managed a top ten finish last season, whilst Villa just about managed to survive in the division as they finished in 17th and only one point above the relegation zone, per Sky Sports.
Therefore to Cash, Sheffield United looks like the better club to end up at and if the Blades put in an offer the same price as Villa then they should definitely be the favourites to sign the player.
