Sheffield United are looking to improve their squad for next season, but it seems like they also want to make sure veteran Phil Jagielka stays at the club for another year.
According to Football Insider, the Blades have offered Jagielka a new one-year deal after his current contract was meant to expire this summer.
Manager Chris Wilder loves the defender and is desperate for him to sign the new contract.
Jagielka, who is 37 years-old, is well known and adored at the club as he made 249 appearances for the Blades from 2001-2007 before moving to Everton where he then made 385 appearances for the Toffees, per Transfermarkt.
Wilder brought him back to the club last summer and despite him only making six appearances in the division, there is clearly another reason why the manager would love him to stay and that’s because of the experience the centre-back can give to the other defenders at the club.
To have a player who has a wealth of experience in the Premier League as well as someone who captained Everton and also made 40 appearances for England is a great asset to have, no matter the age and there is no harm in keeping him at the club for another season.
Hopefully Jagielka will commit to another season as Wilder is so keen to keep him and it would be a great place for the player to finish his football career.
