Sheffield United are preparing for another season in England’s top flight, and they will have to add some new players to the squad if they want to continue competing at such a level. The latest transfer speculation suggests they are scouting League One for a new attacker.
According to the Birmingham Mail in an exclusive report, recently promoted West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Siriki Dembele, who plays for Peterborough United.
However, now the Blades are also monitoring the player and so it looks like a bidding war could be on the cards.
The 23 year-old predominantly plays on the right wing for Peterborough and since his move to the League One side from Grimsby, he has played 77 games, scoring 13 goals and assisting 16, per Transfermarkt.
Last season was his best campaign for the club when it comes to goal contributions as he managed five goals and eight assists, which highlights that the player is growing season by season.
The signing would be a strange one for the Blades to make though, as they typically favour a formation which does not use wingers, but rather one which has two strikers up front and five at the back. Therefore Dembele would possibly have to adapt to a role as a centre-forward, which he has done in the past as he has made 14 appearances in the position, per Transfermarkt.
Despite this, it still seems like a risky transfer as the club could look at someone who is more suited to the striker position. The player clearly has potential as fellow Premier League side West Brom are looking at him, but it is worth wondering whether the Blades should be spending their money more wisely on other players.
