It is no secret that Sheffield United are very keen on trying to sign John Swift, and it seems like this possible transfer still has a long way to go, but the club are not backing down yet.
According to the Sheffield Star, Reading have rejected the Blades current bid for the midfielder and the owner of the Royals, Dai Yongge, is eager for the player to stay.
However with the Englishman knowing of the Blades interest, he is keen on the move and therefore the current update is that Wilder still believes that the club will be able to acquire the player.
The 25 year-old has clearly shown glimpses of Premier League quality as he came from Chelsea’s academy. Last season, he shone in the Championship as he has played 40 times and scored six goals whilst supplying 10 assists, per WhoScored.
He also averages 1.1 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game, whilst at the other end of the pitch he averages 1.4 shots and 2.3 key passes per game, highlighting he is very good at breaking up opposition attacks as well as being an attacking threat himself, per WhoScored.
This move looks like a no-brainer as the Blades can get a relatively young midfielder who is showing promise and wants to join the club. Even though he is currently in the Championship, his statistics and the fact that he started in Chelsea’s academy highlight that the potential to be a Premier League player is there and that he is more likely to achieve this potential with a top-flight squad around him.
