Sheffield United have been linked with another player from the Championship as they seek to bolster squad for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
According to The Sun, (page 59, 16/08) via Sheffield United News, the Blades would like to sign Huddersfield player Lewis O’Brien. Fellow Premier League side Burnley are also interested and they have already submitted a bid in the region of £7m.
This is an interesting link for the Blades and adds to the list of midfielders with whom the club have been linked, including fellow Championship player John Swift. However, their interest in the Reading man seems to have tailed off after an initial bid was rejected and, now that they are linked with other midfielders, it may suggest that they are struggling to agree a deal for the Royals player.
O’Brien seems like a decent alternative, however, as he had a decent campaign with Huddersfield in 2019/20. The Englishman scored two goals whilst providing four assists and completed on average 1.1 successful dribbles a game, via WhoScored. He also managed 3.2 tackles and 1.9 interceptions per game, which shows he can be helpful at both ends of the pitch.
These figures seem even more impressive when considering that it was his debut season in the Championship and he is only 21, which highlights that he has ample time to develop even further in his career. In terms of growth potential and recent form, this has the look of a clever deal by Sheffield United if they can pull it off.
Blades fans, do you think O’Brien would be a good addition at Bramall Lane? Comment below with your views!
