It hasn’t been the best week of football for Sheffield United, as they have only picked up one point from their two fixtures since the Premier League returned, and arguably fans would have wanted to see some better results as they drew 0-0 to Aston Villa and lost 3-0 at Newcastle.
However it has been a great season for a side who many thought would be relegated, and Chris Wilder wants to tie some more players down to the club for longer as three players have been offered new deals.
The Star has reported that Blades trio John Lundstram, John Egan and Chris Basham have been offered non-negotiable contracts by the club, according to manager Wilder.
The three of them have been vital to the club’s season as between them they have only missed seven matches after featuring 83 times in the league this term. They currently sit seventh and the trio’s consistent appearances highlight that they have been crucial to the South Yorkshire club’s success.
All starting 11 players have proven how important they have been with their great performances this season. Basham and Egan have been part of a solid defence which has kept 11 clean sheets, the joint second most in the division, whilst they have only conceded 28 goals, which is the second fewest in the league, via Premier League.
Meanwhile Lundstram has the second most goals for them in the Premier League with four and the second most assists with three to his name, per WhoScored. His creative threat in the middle of the pitch has been a huge influence on the squad.
It is very good to see club is trying to tie the three down, and they should not be hesitating to put pen to paper on a new deal at a club which is clearly on the up.
Blades fans, will the three sign new deals? Comment below!
