Sheffield United seem to be planning a raid on teams facing relegation from the Premier League, with transfer reports linking them with one player from bottom club Norwich City.
According to the Daily Star, the Blades would like to sign Canaries midfielder Todd Cantwell, as manager Chris Wilder is a big admirer of the 22-year-old and he has identified him as one of the main targets in the upcoming transfer window. United are planning to put in an offer of around £10m for the player.
The 22 year-old has six goals and two assists in his first season in the Premier League with Norwich and has shown some great attacking potential as he has managed 1.2 shots, averaged one key pass and completed 1.3 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.
He has also been linked with champions Liverpool, an indicator as to the scale of his potential, and a young creative player could be exactly what the Blades need. In fact, when comparing his attacking stats to Wilder’s squad, he is in the top five for shots per game and the top three for both key passes per game and successful dribbles per game.
These figures emphasise that he would likely add considerable attacking intent to the side and, with Sheffield United among the Premier League’s lowest-scoring teams, Cantwell could well be the type of potent signing that they need.
For someone who has been lauded for his performances in his first year in the Premier League, his potential £10m signing seems like a no-brainer for the Blades.
