# Sheffield United: Chris Wilder backs Oli McBurnie to improve next season

**Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has [backed](https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-uniteds-oli-mcburnie-backed-have-bigger-impact-premier-league-next-season-2927906) striker Oli McBurnie to improve and have a good second season in the Premier League with the club.**

Signing for the Blades from Swansea City in a [£17m deal](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11683/11773944/oli-mcburnie-sheffield-united-agree-17m-deal-for-swansea-striker) last summer, the Scottish international striker played his a part in what turned out to be a good return to the Premier League for the club.

McBurnie finished the season with a [personal goals tally of six in the league](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/oliver-mcburnie/profil/spieler/298477) as Sheffield United finished an impressive ninth in the table. Having seem his in the Europa League places at one point during the 2019/20 season, Wilder will be keen to see the striker improve on his tally from this term.

The Blades boss has discussed McBurnie’s current chances of providing more goals on a regular basis.

As quoted by [The Yorkshire Post](https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/sheffield-uniteds-oli-mcburnie-backed-have-bigger-impact-premier-league-next-season-2927906), Wilder said: *“It’s his first season in the Premier League and it’s been a long old season for him.*

*“He needs to recover and go again if he wants to be an established Premier League player he’s got to improve his skills. We’ve got to improve him but I think it’s been a decent effort for him for his first year in the Premier League, as it is by everybody at the football club.”*

With his six goals for the season, McBurnie finished as the [Blades’ joint-top league scorer](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/163/Show/England-Sheffield-United) with Frenchman Lys Mousset.

The transfer fee paid for McBurnie last summer was considerable but Wilder obviously sees something in the striker.

Six goals is not a bad return considering the he was [in and out of the team](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/oliver-mcburnie/leistungsdaten/spieler/298477) but, if Sheffield United are to mount a Europa League challenge next year, then they may need the 24-year-old to improve further on that tally in the 2020/21 campaign.
