# Sheffield Wednesday: Barry Bannan confident of returning from injury

**Barry Bannan is confident that he will be able to make his return from injury in time to face Millwall on Saturday, as reported by [The Star](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/latest-owls-news/sheffield-wednesday-star-barry-bannan-confident-he-will-be-fit-for-millwall-test-489869).**

The 29-year-old was left out of the 2-0 win against Barnsley on Saturday after [**tweaking his calf**](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/latest-owls-news/sheffield-wednesday-star-barry-bannan-confident-he-will-be-fit-for-millwall-test-489869) during training.

There is [**hope from Lee Bullen**](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/latest-owls-news/sheffield-wednesday-star-barry-bannan-confident-he-will-be-fit-for-millwall-test-489869) that the Scotsman will return to training ahead of the game after having had a rest: “We have told him not to do anything for a couple of days because we want to try and give him the best possible chance to recover.”

Bannan played the full 90 minutes in the Owls’ 3-1 opening day victory against Reading, taking the corner that Sam Hutchinson headed in to get Wednesday’s second goal of the game, as shown in the video on [**Reading**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7RyhidIMfA)‘s official YouTube channel.

In addition, he made two tackles, an impressive five key passes and completed 85% of his attempted passes during the game, as per [**WhoScored**](https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1381351/Live/England-Championship-2019-2020-Reading-Sheffield-Wednesday).

The Scotsman started [**40 Championship games**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/70100/History/Barry-Bannan) and came on as a substitute once last season, scoring five goals and assisting 11 times.

This highlights how integral a part of the Sheffield Wednesday squad he can be, so having not beaten Millwall in the league last season, as per [**11v11**](https://www.11v11.com/teams/sheffield-wednesday/tab/opposingTeams/opposition/Millwall/), Bullen will be hoping for the midfielder’s return.

It will be a big boost for Sheffield Wednesday if Bannan is able to be involved, whether that is from the start or off the bench.

However, with Adam Reach having [**played well in centre-midfield**](https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/latest-owls-news/sheffield-wednesday-star-barry-bannan-confident-he-will-be-fit-for-millwall-test-489869)last weekend, with Jacob Murphy scoring from the vacated right-wing position on his Owls debut, there is no need to take any risks in rushing Bannan back.
