# Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react as club sign Chey Dunkley

**It has been a busy week for Sheffield Wednesday as they have announced the [arrival of three](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53748331) new coaches, and now they have signed defender Chey Dunkley.**

The club announced the signing via Twitter as they posted a video of the player in the Owls kit and [said:](https://twitter.com/swfc/status/1293948574712111106?s=20) ‘Give a warm Wednesday welcome to Chey Dunkley!’

Many of the Owls fan base are reacting to this news and seem to be very happy about the transfer. The centre-back is at a good age to be signed as he is [28](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/138779/Show/Cheyenne-Dunkley) and he has good experience in the Championship. He played 26 times in the division for Wigan last season, keeping [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chey-dunkley/leistungsdaten/spieler/217094) clean sheets and averaging 3.9 clearances a game, per [WhoScored.](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/138779/Show/Cheyenne-Dunkley)

However he [left](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chey-dunkley/leistungsdaten/spieler/217094) the the Latics as his contract had run out, and this makes the signing even better for Garry Monk as it means they picked him up on a [free transfer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/chey-dunkley/leistungsdaten/spieler/217094).

Not only is it a good piece of business, but it is also an early signing and could be a statement of intent from the club that they are going to put up a strong battle in the Championship this season, something which is going to be tough as they currently have a [12 point deduction](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53612257).

Here is what fans said following the news:
