# Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react as news breaks that the club will listen to offers for Joost van Aken

**Garry Monk has a lot of work to do at Sheffield Wednesday for next season as they currently have a [12 point deduction](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53612257#:~:text=Sheffield%20Wednesday%20have%20been%20deducted,being%20sold%20a%20year%20later.), and it seems like he is reshaping the squad as he is happy to let one defender depart in the summer.**

According to [Dom Howson](https://twitter.com/domhowson/status/1297835876828041216?s=20) at the Sheffield star, the Owls are looking to sell centre-back Joost Van Aken in the transfer window. [Several clubs](https://twitter.com/domhowson/status/1297835876828041216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1297835876828041216%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.footballtransfertavern.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D315451action%3Dedit) around Europe have already enquired about his availability and with him only having [one year](https://twitter.com/domhowson/status/1297835876828041216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1297835876828041216%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.footballtransfertavern.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D315451action%3Dedit) left on the contract, Wednesday would need to sell him this summer to get a decent amount of money for him.

The sale makes sense as the Dutchman has only made 17 appearances since joining back in 2017, per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joost-van-aken/transfers/spieler/261546), and he spent last season on loan at 2.Bundesliga side VfL Osnabrück.

\[freshpress-quiz id=”292811″\]

He is clearly surplus to requirements, and the fact that the club bought him for [£2.7 million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joost-van-aken/transfers/spieler/261546) highlights that they have definitely wasted money on the [26 year-old.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joost-van-aken/transfers/spieler/261546)

If they can recoup some of the money for the defender, it would be very helpful so that they can try and sign another centre-back who can actually have an impact on the squad.

Here is what fans said following the news, with the majority happy to see the back of him given his lack of impact at the club. One even labelled him a “flop”.

> Disaster move for us and him. Not the player we needed and badly managed when he came in. Good luck to him in future.
