Carlton Palmer reckons that Sheffield Wednesday will cash-in on star man Josh Windass should the right offer present itself.
Windass has been the subject of interest from Millwall in recent weeks, with the Lions seeing two bids turned down for the 28-year-old.
Will Sheffield Wednesday earn promotion?
However, there’s a host of other Championship sides that are keen on prising the attacker away from Hillsborough this summer.
Windass was Wednesday’s standout performer last season, contributing to more than 30 percent of their league goals, although his excellent form couldn’t save them from dropping into League One.
He has just one year remaining on his deal with the club, but Wednesday have reportedly slapped a £5m fee on him.
But Palmer exclusively told The Transfer Tavern that his former side will let Windass leave, but only for the right price:
“For Josh I would assume that he would take any opportunity to play higher, and if the club are in the financial mess they appear to be, they will sell him if they get decent offers – there will be no arguments.”
This is a tough situation for Wednesday. Keeping Windass could go some way to ensuring they bounce straight back to the Championship, but moving him on could solve some of their reported financial problems.
But whatever happens with Windass, it promises to be an anxious summer for the Owls.
