Sheffield Wednesday recruiting Dominic Millward is an ‘interesting appointment’, according to journalist Joe Crann.

The Lowdown: Millward appointed by Sheffield Wednesday

The League One club found themselves plagued with injuries last season, and despite already having one soft tissue therapist in the building at Hillsborough, they wanted to bring another in to reduce the number of players being sidelined this term.

The Owls currently have just Dennis Adeniran and Ben Heneghan out of action, but with the relentless amount of fixtures in 2022/23, they can never be too careful when it comes to protecting their most prized assets.

The Latest: Crann’s reaction

Taking to Twitter in sharing a corresponding article for The Star, Crann reacted to Wednesday’s new addition behind the scenes and said that Millard's arrival appears to be having a positive impact.

The journalist wrote: “Dominic Millward is a new addition to #SWFC’s technical team, coming in as a soft tissue therapist… It’s an interesting appointment that - so far - seems to be paying dividends.”

The Verdict: Sensible decision

Darren Moore has a smaller squad this season compared to last, so he will have less depth to rely upon, which is why it’s so important to try and keep everyone fit insofar as possible.

The Owls currently find themselves third in League One, just five points off the top of the table, but if anyone were to pick up any unfortunate long-term injuries, this form could be hampered.

Wednesday will no doubt have precautionary measures and checks in place at the training ground, and this is all they can do in the hope that nothing severe happens out on the pitch.
