Sheffield Wednesday are considering a move to sign Grimsby Town defender Anthony Glennon in January, according to reports.
The Lowdown: Glennon profiled
The left-back arrived at Blundell Park over the summer from Burnley, only this time he put pen to paper on a permanent contract having previously had a loan spell during the 2019/20 campaign.
The Latest: Owls eyeing Glennon
According to Football Insider, Wednesday, alongside Sunderland and Hull City, are all ‘plotting moves’ for Glennon, with the trio on ‘high alert’.
Darren Moore’s side have been ‘making regular checks’ on the full-back ahead of January, with an approach in the winter market looking likely.
The Verdict: James successor
Reece James will be out of contract at the end of the season, and should he not commit to fresh terms, Glennon would be a great replacement at the Hillsborough Stadium.
The Bootle-born talent already has four assists and one goal to his name in all competitions this term, and has been averaging 1.8 key passes and 1.6 tackles per league game (WhoScored).
Glennon is the first-choice left-back at Grimsby so it won’t be easy to prise him away, but the opportunity to join a team that are challenging to gain promotion two divisions above where he currently is might just be one that he can’t turn down.
