Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to update on Barry Bannan

Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to update on Barry Bannan - Sheffield Wednesday News

Many Sheffield Wednesday fans are reacting to an update from journalist Dom Howson on the future of Owls midfielder Barry Bannan.

Howson tweeted:Led to believe Barry Bannan has agreed in principle a new contract with #SWFC.”

The 31 year-old has become somewhat of a cult hero at the club, and has now made 241 appearances for the club (Transfermarkt). He has scored 13 goals and picked up 38 assists during his time at Hillsborough.

This season, he has remained integral to the Owls, playing 29 games in the Championship and picking up two goals and four assists.

Therefore despite the fact the new contract has only been agreed in principle, it is still great news to hear. One fan called Bannan a ‘fantastic talent’ whilst another said they were ‘over the moon’ after hearing the update.

As it stands, he is available to leave on a free in the summer due to his deal running out, but this Howson update means that for now, fans don’t have to stress about losing a key player.

“Bannan is a fantastic talent in this league. Frustrating that we’ve failed to really build around him for the last couple of years but would be a big positive to keep him, Osaze and Reach in my opinion.”

“Fair play to baz… the club is in complete turmoil and he is willing to effectively end his playing career at our club. His loyalty is awesome”
