Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to Steve Bruce’s comments on Jacob Murphy

Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to Steve Bruce’s comments on Jacob Murphy - Sheffield Wednesday News

Sheffield Wednesday might have to look for new transfer targets as Steve Bruce confirmed that Jacob Murphy will not be leaving Newcastle United this transfer window.

Speaking following the Magpies emphatic Carabao Cup victory over Morecambe, in which Murphy scored, Bruce said, via Dom Howson: “I won’t be letting Jacob go. He’s had a really good pre-season, and showed a great attitude towards it. He’s benefited from being out on loan, and had a really good loan last year at #SWFC, who think really highly of him.”

Murphy was with the Owls on loan last season and he played 39 times for them in the Championship, scoring nine goals and supplying six assists, per Transfermarkt.

Garry Monk clearly thought he had a good impact at the club last season, as he was very interested in bringing him back on another loan, but this possible transfer now looks unlikely and with less than two weeks of the transfer window left, the Owls will have to move quickly if they do want to sign another winger.

Despite the player’s decent goal contribution, most Wednesday fans aren’t too disheartened that he will not be returning. It seems some got fed up by the length of time the transfer saga has dragged on for, whilst some feel he wasn’t that great. Indeed, he only really found form after the lockdown period and prior to that had scored just five times in 30 games.

Here is what they said following the news:

Owls fans, are you gutted to hear these comments from Steve Bruce? Let us know down below!
