Sheffield Wednesday: Fans slam club for lack of send off for Sam Hutchinson - Sheffield Wednesday News

Sheffield Wednesday fans are not happy with the manner in which long-serving player Sam Hutchinson is set to depart from the club.

The midfielder is just one of 15 players whose contracts at Hillsborough were set to expire at the end of June. Wednesday haven’t offered Hutchinson a new deal which means he will become a free agent at the end of the month.

How many career goals did David Hirst score for Wednesday?

The 30-year-old joined the club in 2014 from Chelsea, after enjoying a spell in South Yorkshire on loan (via BBC Sport). The defender turned midfield man has made 154 appearances for the Owls, contributing six goals and four assists in that time (via Transfermarkt).

Although this season has been a subpar one for Hutchinson in Wednesday colours, fans are furious at the fact he will not receive a proper send off after six years with the team. Many Wednesdayites have replied to Joe Crann’s tweet expressing their disappointment, with one fan saying ‘it’s a disgrace’ and lashing out by saying ‘thanks Monk’.

Hutchinson was left out of the last ten match day squads, and it seems supporters are angry with Garry Monk’s decision not to play him.
