Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru ‘wants to stay’ at Hillsborough amid talk of a new contract, according to journalist Dom Howson.

The Lowdown: Uncertain future

The League One star has become an integral member of Darren Moore’s starting XI since his arrival from Manchester City two years ago, but his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

The Owls manager has recently stated that he remains confident that the 21-year-old will extend his stay at Hillsborough beyond the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign, although he is yet to put pen to paper.

The Latest: Howson’s update

During a Yorkshire Live Q&A, Howson was asked for an update on Dele-Bashiru’s contract situation.

The journalist replied: “Nothing fresh to report, I'm afraid. DM said Wednesday are in the process of trying to sort out the "final bits and pieces". He seems confident FDB will stay put. Talk, though, has gone on for some time.

“If Wednesday haven't got him tied down before the end of the year, it will be a huge worry. But the noises coming out of the club are that FDB wants to stay at the club and that the deal will happen.”

The Verdict: Huge boost

Should Dele-Bashiru decide to commit to fresh terms, it would be a massive boost for Wednesday, who will know how much of influence he has on their success.

Hailed as a ‘crazy’ talent by Jacek Kulig, the 21-year-old has scored five goals and registered three assists in all competitions this season, with an impressive 89.7% pass success rate in the third tier (WhoScored).

The Owls are flying high in the table, so there’s no reason why Dele-Bashiru wouldn’t sign a new deal, and he could prove vital in Wednesday's push for promotion.
