Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers being closer to a return to action is ‘good news’, according to journalist Dom Howson.

The Lowdown: Injury concerns

The League One playmaker sustained a serious foot injury during the 4-2 victory over Burton Albion at the end of October and has been ruled out of action ever since.

However, Darren Moore recently hinted that the 26-year-old could be set to stage his comeback in the game against Derby County on Saturday, with the Owls set to make a late call on Byers' fitness depending on the availability of some of the squad’s other absentees.

The Latest: Howson’s reaction

Taking to Twitter in sharing a corresponding article for Yorkshire Live, Howson reacted to Moore’s injury update and insisted that Byers’ imminent return will be a welcome one.

He wrote: “Good news for #SWFC as George Byers is edging closer to a first team return.”

The Verdict: Boost for Moore

Byers being back available for selection again will come as a huge boost to Moore, who will know how integral a member the 26-year-old is in Wednesday's starting XI.

The Owls maestro has become a fan favourite, having scored ten goals and provided three assists during his time at Hillsborough (Transfermarkt), where he is currently averaging 2.5 tackles per 90 minutes in League One .

The Scotsman’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but given the noticeable impact he has had on the team, the hierarchy offering him a new deal before next summer would be nothing less than he deserves.
