Sheffield Wednesday: Journalist reacts to George Byers injury

Sheffield Wednesday: Journalist reacts to George Byers injury - League One News

Journalist Alex Miller spotted George Byers struggling before the midfielder was withdrawn during Sheffield Wednesday‘s victory at home to Morecambe on Tuesday evening.

The Lowdown: Another victory for Owls

Darren Moore’s side drew 2-2 at Ipswich Town on Saturday but a more straightforward League One assignment lay ahead of them on Tuesday.

Wednesday breezed past their struggling opponents at Hillsborough, with Barry Bannan opening the scoring in the first minute and Josh Windass making it 2-0 soon after, with Windass completing an easy night’s work late on.

The Owls’ win sees them return to winning ways and also strengthens their hold on automatic promotion, having not lost in the league since October.

The Latest: Byers gets injured

There was one downside, however, with Miller taking to Twitter to bemoan Byers picking up an injury late in the first half – one that saw him removed at half-time:

“Slightly concerning viewing watching George Byers leave the field at half-time – looked to be walking a little gingerly.”

The Verdict: Big blow for Wednesday

While Wednesday were able to ease to victory after Byers left the field, his injury is still an undoubted blow, considering what a key man he is in Moore’s midfield.

He enjoyed an 83% pass completion rate against Morecambe and also played two key passes, and his guile in the middle of the park will be much missed if he is sidelined for an extended period, having played 19 times in the league this term, scoring five.

Byers complements both Bannan and Will Vaulks beautifully in midfield, providing box-to-box energy and an injection of end product, and the hope is of course that he makes a swift return to action.
