Many Sheffield Wednesday fans are fuming following a tweet from journalist Dom Howson on the future of young midfielder Liam Shaw.
It is reported that the 19 year-old academy product will be joining Scottish giants Celtic in the summer when his contract runs out at Hillsborough. Howson gave his views on this via an article he posted on Twitter, with the message ‘Long morning read from me on Liam Shaw’s move to Celtic’.
Shaw has started to emerge into the senior squad this season, and has featured 12 times in the Championship (WhoScored).
However it is now very disappointing and frustrating for fans of the club to see that Shaw is likely to leave, with some putting the blame on owner Dejphon Chansiri for not sorting out his contract before it was close to running out. One fan replied to the tweet saying the update was ‘disgraceful’.
With the club battling relegation and needing to keep a hold of their best players, losing an emerging star is not the way to win over the fan base.
Here is how Owls fans reacted to the news:
“We’ve no future no optimism no plan”
“The whole club is a mockery but I don’t blame the individuals who work at the club, coaches, admin staff, department heads etc there hands are tied by a chairman who time after time proved he’s not got a scooby how to run a football club.”
“A great article Dom spot on and most people will agree wholeheartedly with it. Serious mismanagement which will prove costly.”
“Its a sad time for the Owls…hes one of our very few great players…”
“As you say Dom yet another sign of no forward planning from the club. Disgraceful his contract was allowed to run down.”
“What would he’d been worth if we’d tied him down to a new contract, a lot of money, this just shows that the club need to be run by someone who knows the game inside out..if you need a example, look know further than Brentford”
