Sheffield Wednesday defender Michael Ihiekwe is set to miss the League One game vs Burton Albion on Saturday through suspension, according to journalist Dom Howson.

The Lowdown: Honours even at Hillsborough

The Owls earned a 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers at Hillsborough on Wednesday night, and will now be preparing to host Dino Maamria’s side this coming weekend.

However, Darren Moore will be without the services of the 29-year-old after picking up yet another yellow card in midweek, which will now force him to sit out of the clash against the Brewers.

The Latest: Ihiekwe suspended

Taking to Twitter, Howson confirmed that Ihiekwe is now suspended and won’t be able to feature for Wednesday when they face Burton, though it will only be for one fixture.

“Ihiekwe will miss Burton on Saturday. That was his fifth booking of the season. Will now serve a one-match ban.”

The Verdict: Blow for Moore

Ihiekwe being unavailable for selection will come as a huge blow to Moore, who will know just how much of a rock his colossus has been at the heart of the backline.

The centre-back currently averages 3.6 successful aerial duels, 3.5 clearances and the same number of long balls per league 90 minutes, with an 85% pass success rate (WhoScored).

Luckily for the Owls, he will only be missing for a single game, so the boss will be able to have him back at his disposal for the FA Cup tie against Morecambe in the first week of November.
