Sheffield Wednesday journalist Dom Howson has confirmed that Reece James will be out of action for a ‘couple of weeks’ after sustaining an injury in midweek.

The Lowdown: Concerns over James

The Owls were on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Plymouth on Tuesday, and the evening was made worse when the left-back was forced off the pitch following a heavy challenge.

The 28-year-old was later ruled out of the 3-0 victory over Cheltenham, with reports suggesting that the League One outfit needed to make a longer prognosis, and there has now been a further development that supporters won’t want to hear.

The Latest: Moore’s injury update

Taking to Twitter, Howson revealed that James is set to face a spell on the sidelines after a worrying update from Darren Moore. He wrote:

“Bad news on Reece James. Darren Moore expects the Blackpool loanee to be out for a couple of weeks.”

Speaking during his post-match conference on Saturday, the boss said:

“We have to wait and see a little bit with him and by Monday we’ll know a lot more, but it’s not ideal. I can probably say now that it’s an injury that will keep him out for a few weeks as opposed to anything less than that.

“We should be able to get a diagnosis on the injury, but it’ll be a couple of weeks.”

The Verdict: Blow for Wednesday

James not being available for selection for several weeks will come as a huge blow to the Owls manager who will know how much of an integral member of the first team he is.

The Blackpool loanee was averaging two tackles and 1.5 clearances per game prior to his injury, alongside having an assist to his name in just eight appearances (WhoScored).

Sitting just five points off the top of the table, Wednesday will be hoping to have James back as soon as possible to help continue their impressive start to the season in a thrilling push for promotion.
