# Sheffield Wednesday: Reece James ‘definitely’ wants to stay

**[Sheffield Wednesday](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/sheffield-wednesday-news/) defender Reece James has admitted that he would ‘definitely’ like to make the permanent move to [League One](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/league-one-news/).**

### The Lowdown: Instant impact

The Owls star put pen to paper on a season-long [loan](https://www.swfc.co.uk/news/2022/july/reece-james-joins-owls-on-loan/) from Blackpool over the summer and has made a blistering start to life at the Hillsborough Stadium.

Darren Moore has recently been using the 29-year-old on the left side of a back three rather than in his usual full-back position, and despite still having [18 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/reece-james/profil/spieler/245585) left on his contract with the Tangerines, an encouraging verdict regarding his future has been delivered.

### The Latest: James’ exciting admission

Asked by [YorkshireLive](https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/reece-james-sheffield-wednesday-future-25684151) whether he would be open to a permanent move to Wednesday in 2023, James said:

“Definitely. It’s a great club and I’m really enjoying my football here at the moment.

“I’ve got to make sure I’m doing everything that I can for Sheffield Wednesday. That’s where my mind is at.

“I’m really enjoying my time here and hopefully in January I’ll know a bit more about what’s going on.”

### The Verdict: Boost for Moore

James potentially making the full-time switch to Yorkshire would be a massive boost for Moore, who has quickly made him a regular feature in his starting XI.

The Bacup-born talent has made 16 appearances across all competitions this season, providing two assists during that time, not forgetting that his versatility to operate at both left-back and centre-back is an added bonus ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/reece-james/leistungsdaten/spieler/245585)).

The Owls are currently just [one](https://www.skysports.com/league-1-table) point away from the automatic promotion places, and if James helps his side achieve the jump up, the boss will be even more keen to maintain his services.
