Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to contract update on Atdhe Nuhiu

It seems like it is definitely the end of an era for Atdhe Nuhiu at Sheffield Wednesday following a tweet from Joe Crann, and a lot of the fan base are reacting to the latest news about the striker.
Crann, who is a Sheffield Wednesday journalist for The Star reported on Twitter that the Kosovan has played his last game for the Owls and he is not expected back for pre-season.
His contract at the club expired when the 2019/20 Championship season ended, but with no official confirmation on the future of the attacker, it was unknown if some of the out of contract players like Nuhiu would be coming back for the next season.
Nuhiu had a decent career at Wednesday, featuring 276 times for the Owls in all competitions and scoring 50 goals whilst registering 27 assists, per Transfermarkt. This highlights that he has been good a servant for the club, but with him now 31, the club clearly feel like it is a good time for them to part ways.
In response to the post from Crann, there were differing opinions from some Wednesdayites. Whilst some were sad to see him go as he has been a loyal servant at Hillsborough, others seemed to agree it was time for him to move on – perhaps because he only managed 10 or more league goals once during his time at the club.
A bit of news on Atdhe Nuhiu…
I’m told that – as things stand – he’s played his last #SWFC game. He’s not expected back for preseason this week.
Clubs in the Championship and overseas showing interest. Unlikely to be short of suitors. https://t.co/C8qpXKycwy 🦉⚽️ pic.twitter.com/WULRvMjXi0

Do you get any sense of urgency at the club for making signings? Because it’s all very quiet and we need a heck of a lot of players.

Surely we have to look forward. He’s been part of a largely underperforming team and hasn’t shown anywhere near enough to warrant another deal. If we are serious about improving we have to move on.

I really think we’re missing a trick if we don’t keep him. Big risk in losing someone that so clearly gives his all and fights for the team on and off the pitch. Not to mention all those late goals and assists.

Shame that. He’s always a good option off the bench, and he seems totally committed.

Shame a great super sub but he could easily start elsewhere so all the best to him.
