With Sheffield Wednesday receiving a 12 point deduction for the 2020/21 Championship season, they will already be sitting bottom of the division without a single ball being kicked.
This deduction might see them struggle to bring in transfer targets as it will likely see them be heavily involved in a relegation battle, and due to this it seems like they might look to re-sign one of the players who is out of contract.
According to Joe Crann, the club want to re-sign midfielder Kieran Lee. The Sheffield Wednesday journalist at The Star said: ‘Been led to believe that both Kieran Lee and #SWFC are keen to extend their relationship into next season – if the terms are right.’
Lee has been a great servant for the club ever since he arrived on a free transfer from Oldham Athletic back in 2012, per Transfermarkt, and has gone on to make 217 appearances as a defensive midfielder, scoring 22 goals and picking up 15 assists along the way.
He definitely has the experience to help the club in their current situation, and right now the Owls can’t really be spoilt when it comes to transfers. However, he has had a number of injury issues of late and missed out on being in the league squad eight times last season, whilst also being out of action for 69 league games between December 2017 and April 2019.
Here is what fans said following the news, with most happy about it given the club’s situation, although a couple do seem to think it is a risk given his injury record.

Slightly disappointed in this….he had not played for months but when back was injured yet again..we can’t afford players to do this just like Hutchinson..if terms are right and good for us then fair enough but not a massive contract chansiri lad…. #swfc

Wouldn’t do it normally but people have to realise that this isn’t a normal pre season and it won’t be a normal season for quite a number of reasons that go beyond the deduction and squad shortcomings. Building a new squad in 6 to 8 weeks just won’t happen. Have to be pragmatic

No ones going to offer him a better contract then us I think on reduced wages. Brings quality to the squad 👍🏼 good move swfc

Good move for all concerned. Lee won’t be on massive wages and is still a quality player when fit.
I think Wednesday will find it hard to recruit new faces this summer knowing they will be starting on -12 points next season.
