# Signing Mateo Kovacic would be a good decision for Chelsea

**Chelsea have a somewhat uncertain summer ahead of them. Will Maurizio Sarri remain in charge? Will they be able to keep Eden Hazard? Which loanees will be brought into the first-team? So many questions, a club who are so poor at answering them.**

Although there are so many unanswered concerns right now, all will become clearer in the coming weeks.

One thing that is for sure though, is that Chelsea have a transfer ban and are not able to sign anyone this summer, apart from current loanees such as Mateo Kovacic.

The [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/05/17/chelsea-delay-applying-cas-freeze-two-window-transfer-ban/) reported late last week, that following Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s injury, Chelsea are preparing to snap up Kovacic on a permanent deal to bolster their midfield, even with Mason Mount potentially having a part to play in the squad next season.

Having made 32 appearances in the Premier League, the former Inter Milan ace was a regular in Chelsea’s starting line-up but one that failed to inspire on occasion. He does have great potential, being 25-years-old, but Chelsea will rightly be expecting a great deal more if they’re to shell out at least £30 million to sign him.

Kovacic ([who is valued at £31.5 million on Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mateo-kovacic/profil/spieler/51471)) is seemingly no longer wanted by Real Madrid and so a move back to Stamford Bridge would make sense for all involved. Obviously, he and Gonzalo Higuain are the only players Chelsea can sign permanently this summer and it would be a sensible thing to do, especially if the Blues were to suffer any more injury blows before the start of the next campaign.

The 25-year-old has shown his ability at times and would at the very least, be an important squad player that Sarri can call upon from time-to-time. Yes, he needs to do more in terms of actually racking up goals and assists, but the Champions League-winner is a signing that makes sense.
