# Southampton: Atalanta offer for Mario Lemina rejected

**Southampton have reportedly turned down an offer from Serie A side Atalanta for midfielder Mario Lemina.**

[Tuttomercatoweb (via Sport Witness) report the Italian outfit have had a loan with right of redemption offer rejected by the south coast club](https://sportwitness.co.uk/southampton-reject-offer-midfielder-want-permanent-sale/).

The same report also states that Southampton are open to a deal, though, but only a permanent one, with Atalanta now expected to make another move in the coming days.

The above comes after [the Telegraph reported that the Saints were considering the sale of Lemina, as well as the likes of Wesley Hoedt and Fraser Forster](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/06/29/southampton-continue-squad-overhaul-15m-arrival-che-adams-17m/) as Ralph Hasenhuttl continues to overhaul his squad.

Southampton are not short of midfield options, with Hasenhuttl having Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu and Stuart Armstrong all to call upon. Still, getting rid of Lemina this summer would surely be a mistake.

When you look at his stats, the 25-year-old Gabon international is clearly a midfielder who brings a lot to the table.

He is an accurate passer of the ball, registering a pass success rate of 86% in the Premier League last season — no current Southampton midfielder was better in possession [(as per WhoScored)](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/18/Show/England-Southampton).

Lemina was also pretty effective when carrying the ball, with only Nathan Redmond [(2.4)](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86425/Show/Nathan-Redmond) topping his 1.1 dribbles per game.

Considering all of that, the Saints could be losing a really good option for the engine room if they let the ex-Juventus man return to Italy.

***Southampton fans, should the club allow Lemina to leave this summer? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!***
